cold toes & a full heart

February 9, 2015
It was a slow, slow, slow week, though we did have some really good happenings....

We had an awesome lesson with Sister Mckee (a recent convert) about Temple and family history work..
She already has a binder full of her family tree that her uncle has been working on over the years!
SO COOL! Just another thing to add to her story of how prepared she was for the Gospel..
The story: Her husband was a less active member and they have been married for about 10 years.
He was waiting the whole time for her to want to learn about the Church, but he didn't want to make
waves, so he just waited for the right moment. The Sisters (about 9 months ago) knocked on their door
and Sister McKee answered. She politely told them that she was not interested and that her husband
was not an active member of our Church anymore.. well, she ended up referring herself on mormon.org
and they went back, started teaching the both of them, and Brother McKee was able to baptize Sister
McKee in August! He told her in the first lesson that he had been waiting and that he wanted to be
married to her for eternity! Hooray for prepared people. We are hoping to get them to the Temple
soon to do baptisms as preparation for August, when they can be sealed!!! So exciting!

We also had a wonderful lesson with Sister Longsworth, a less active member. We also talked about
Temple and family history work! This work is so awesome and really excites people. It's something
that I have seen touch the hearts of many! She is so excited to start her work and we will meet with
her this week in our family history center at the church.. she hasn't been to church in YEARS. Just
getting her in the building and feeling the Spirit will be amazing and much needed. We will see how
that goes this week..

We have just been having some awesome lessons where we are learning the concerns of so many!
We are hoping that we can help them all to resolve their concerns. Lee & Deb (less actives) were open
with us and told us they struggle with the Word of Wisdom (smoking); Janice + Jim (active/nonmember)
told us they have a lot of questions; and Sister Bayman (less active) told us that she doesn't know if
she's gained a personal witness of The Book of Mormon. So many things to help people with! I LOVE
my calling! I love helping people come to a knowledge of the same truth I have enjoyed knowing my
whole life.

The best thing, by  far, was when we were at the Felver's for our Friday night dinner. He has been
having a tough past 3 weeks at work and was really tired. Sister Felver read us a text he sent to her
earlier that day.. it was SO sweet! A little over a year ago, Brother Felver was drinking about 12 beers
a day and downing a half gallon of "Jack" on weekends. He said in his text, "Hey, could you do me a
favor and go pick me up a half gallon of Jack at the store? Been a rough day." and then, "Actually, no..
I'd rather spend eternity with my wife and kids." AHHH! Do you even understand how much the Gospel
CHANGES lives. It does! It really does. Brother Felver is so awesome. The Felvers are awesome.
They are miracles. They have come to love the Gospel and love living it!

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the best. It really is the most powerful thing in existence that can
change us. Living the Gospel brings happiness, peace, and blessings every single day! I love it. I am
so grateful to have had good parents who taught me the truth of that!

That's all for now! I love you folks!

GOOD(ish) STORIES & QUOTES:
"Are you pooping on the phone now?!?!" -Eli, 6.
- "Don't come back! GONE. NOW." -a really mean guy.
- "The best way to recognize the Spirit is to make sure we always have it with us." -Sister Thomas
- "I'm just stuck there trying to say a prayer with a guy trying to steal the Holy Ghost from me!" -Elder
Bateman, about this guy who literally got on his hands and knees, crawled over, and put his head
underneath his hands to try and receive the Holy Ghost..... Strange life for sure.
- Esteven, a crazy investigator of the other Sisters, has such a strong witness of the Book of Mormon.
He read 2 Nephi 29 ("A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible!") and was talking to his brother on the
phone about it. His brother was concerned about him meeting with missionaries and this other "Bible"
(The Book of Mormon) that we claim to have. Esteven just read him that part of the chapter and said,
"Look, man. God is calling you a fool! This is exactly what you said to me!" Good stuff.
- We got a Headquarter Referral for a man named Tom and went to stop by. We gave him a Bible and
a Book of Mormon and he just said, "Well, I want to get my whole family involved in this." UMM...
please do!
- "And we just want to pray this prayer in Jesus precious name, and say Amen." -Brother Maurer, every
time he prays! He is just so humble!

P.S. HEY, my birthday is coming up on February 14th and my current address is:

1810 Winston Drive
St. Marys, OH 45885

This might be a subtle hint to write me a letter or draw me a lil picture or something. :) That would
make my day!

guest of honor

February 2, 2015
What a week of mixed feelings!

Church ended up being cancelled yesterday, so we got to do some little acts of service and shovel
driveways. I'm sore. What fun! :)

This past week we had a major miracle happen! A less active, Sister Arnett, told us she wanted
nothing to do with the church when I first got to St. Marys because she had read a book full of
anti-misinformation about the Church. We got a text from her last Monday asking for advice and
we called her and set up a time to meet. She said she would be at church that Sunday with her
less active son, too. SO AWESOME! I mean, she has tons of concerns and a foundational testimony
to rebuild, but she is willing to meet now! The thing that softened her heart a little bit was that her
family was struggling with their food supply for the month and she called the Branch President to
receive support.. She kind of feels obligated to the church now, but at least she is willing to meet
and try things out again. I couldn't help but think of all the times we happen to be in physical need
and how the Lord uses those times to fill our Spiritual needs as well. When we went to visit Sister
Arnett, she told us she felt a void in her life. It was amazing to be able to testify to her that this was
a time that Heavenly Father wanted to fill her with truth and peace and all of the other wonderful
blessings living the Gospel brings! We also saw Alice again! We were able to talk about the Book of
Mormon. She loved Helaman 5:12 and even got her highlighter to mark it right then! She is so
wonderful. I love her lessons because we are able to be very genuine with her and she listens intently.

We went to the best party last night. So, I don't know if I've mentioned, but in St. Marys there are
tons of Marshallese people (from the Marshall Islands) that are members of the Church. For some
random reason they ended up in a little town in Ohio (the other Sisters teach them)! The party was
for their little 1 year old NING-A-NING (baby). (It's a huge deal in the Marshall Islands to turn one,
maybe because of the infant mortality rate or something.) It was SO FUN!!!!! All 6 of us missionaries
from the St. Marys Branch went and they had us sit at the Guest of Honor table.. WHY?! We still don't
really know. It was super funny, they'd say something in Marshallese, and this girl Amy (14; getting
baptized this Saturday) would tell us what they were doing. At one point, everyone stood up and
started singing and then we lined up and were supposed to give the baby money.. so we ran to our
bags and got a $1 bill.. It is way too difficult to put into words how wonderfully strange this party was.
The food was yummy, too. One of the things we had heard they were giving out at this party was
these Marshallese muumuus and we all wanted one because Sister Thomas already had one and
they are the bomb.. Anyways, that was what we got for giving our $1 to the baby! A weird mission
story that I will adequately explain at home.

We had interviews this past week! My interview was SOLID GOLD. President is the best, ever. I don't
know if I will ever be able to talk to him without crying a little bit. Like, every time I hear him speak it's
just this culmination of gratitude for everything ever and then he says sweet stuff like, "Heavenly Father,
please bless her forever" in his prayer and BAM! TEARS. I love him! It was seriously so fun. Best 15
minutes of the past week. Some good things he told me:
- "Make God first in your life."
- "Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus Christ. Keep your eyes fixed on heaven."
- "When Heavenly Father gives us something and we respond, we get more." -quoting
Elder Christofferson from a Stake Conference recently.

I love everything that I am able to be a part of as a missionary! The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints is true. God is good. He loves us. Miracles are still happening. Turn to Him and
see what He can do! A Prophet of God testified of the importance of centering our lives on Jesus
Christ and I would echo what he says:

"As we strive to place Christ at the center of our lives by learning His words, by following
His teachings, and by walking in His path, He has promised to share with us the eternal life
that He died to gain. There is no higher end than this, that we should choose to accept His
discipline and become His disciples and do His work throughout our lives. Nothing else, no
other choice we make, can make of us what He can."

I love you all so dearly!

Hugs & snugs,
Sister Pound

GOOD(ish) STORIES & QUOTES:
- Remember that one time we were helping the Felvers bring wood in and stack it and a whole
wood pile started tumbling down on Sister Hunter?! Scary!
- I totally biffed it on the ice this week.. bruises resulted. :P
- Our regular service cancelled this week, so we had 2 hours of nothing to do. We go into this little
place that we were thinking of doing service for and she asked us if we had time then! A little tender
mercy from the Lord! The lady kept saying, "You are an answer to my prayers!" It feels good to be an
instrument in the hands of the Lord.

great things in a small place

January 26, 2015

Hello there!

This past week we had some really cool happenings in St. Marys! Our area is HUGE (as you can
imagine) and we only go to some towns once a week, if that. (I haven't even been to every town
in our area!) We started doing more work in a town called Spencerville and we found 3 new
investigators this week, along with 4 super strong potentials. It was awesome.

We met this lady and she said, "I'm sure my son would LOVE to meet with you! And I would
like to hear more." and her name is Laura..... Laura MOHRMAN. (I want to see this lady baptized!
Can you imagine having a Relief Society President called Sister Mohrman? And her son could go
on a mission and be Elder Mohrman. That would be the best!!!) We continued knocking doors and
her son starts walking toward us shortly after. We had a 10 minute conversation with him in the
middle of someone's lawn. He was seriously so excited to meet us and said, "OH MY GOSH!!!!
I have been looking for your church and I couldn't find it around here!" and he got even more
excited when we gave him a Book of Mormon. They both have strong potential. I am excited to
teach the Mohrmans about the Mormons. The miracle of the situation is that we recognized Laura's
name from a past Headquarter Referral, but had dismissed it because the previous missionaries had
dropped her and we thought it may be a joke because of the name. We looked back to the Referral
printout and found that we had just relocated her as she had moved from her old address! Heavenly
Father must really want to bring her back into His fold.

In addition, we were doing some stop-bys, drawing from our Former Investigators. We were able
to meet a lady named Alice, and her son Dylan (13)! She invited us right in and said, "Dylan, I want
you to see what these girls are doing! They go around and teach people about Jesus!" She then asked
us about our missions and said, "Well, do you have any magazines or something to share? I have
about 20-30 minutes if you want to share anything right now." UMMM... we walked right into a perfect
missionary situation. We were able to share the Restoration with them. Alive was intently listening
and wanted Dylan to listen as well! When we were talking, she brought up her brother, who is
Mennonite, and recognized the peace in his home and his life. She knew it was because of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. We were able to testify to her that the Gospel does change homes and
lives. It was so amazing!

We also had a wonderful lesson with Doug. We just stopped by with Elder and Sister Joos last
week because we hadn't been able to see him in a month because of his radiation treatment. We
went back this week were able to share more about obedience and the foundation the Gospel
provides. He is very concerned for his granddaughters, who are both under 5 and have a very
unstable and inconsistent living situation. We testified to him that church and the Gospel would
help all of them. He said, "If you are of the opinion that church would be the best thing to help my
granddaughters, then I'll bring them." Hopefully we will be seeing him at church a lot more!

That was our week in a nutshell! We have been having such wonderful things happening! I have
been learning so much lately about the Gospel and myself! In church yesterday, President Bissegger
told a story and said, "I think we're all three people: who we should be, who we think we are, and
who we really are." I keep reflecting on this and how far apart each of these things are. I know that
missionary service is helping me to become who I should be. It is shaping my life in tremendous ways.
I can't help but reflect daily: "Am I doing what Christ would do? Am I saying what Christ would say?
Am I being what Christ would be?"

I do love the Gospel and how it shapes me. I am so grateful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ,
and for His grace. He will truly mold our lives and change our willing hearts!

Much love to you, from me!
xoxo,
Sista Aubrey Pound

GOOD(ish) STORIES & QUOTES:
- "Most of you are so sweet, it's doggone pitiful!" -Brother Maurer
- "THAT WEASEL-FACE!" -Brother Parsons
- We were knocking some doors and a guy motions for us to come from his car. So we cross the
street and it took a while, but we finally figured out he was a member from Lima! We had a good
20 minute conversation with him. I love little things like this! :)
- Petting 10 of the cutest Mastiff pups and seeing a cow named Chloe!!!! Classic St. Marys situation.
Everyone has 50 pets, I think.
- Having two dinners in the same night....... remind us to never double-book ourselves. We felt so
sick afterwards! I can never look at Dairy Queen ice cream cake quite the same..
- "You can't draw from an empty well!" -Elder Bateman. I thought this a good reminder that we need
to prepare ourselves continually to share the gospel! Scripture study + prayer will make a difference!
